Re: Food Chain Magnate might be the best tabletop game ever designed and you can play it on your iPad

If anyone wants a copy, Splotter are doing another print run: http://www.splottershop.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=1817 They don't usually do this, and they almost certainly will not continue to do it. FCM has been an unusual commercial success for them, but they're a small bunch of skilled amateurs (n...

Re: How to improve?

It happens a lot more along the margins (mobile gaming), but look at what happened with Threes. For that matter, look at Dead by Daylight and Friday the 13th: The Game for a recent example. There are individual ideas and concepts that have been lifted whole.

I can only imagine the floods of tears produced when Euro players have a game of FCM and, used to what is essentially parallel solitaire, find their advertising hijacked and their markets muscled in on. It is a ruthless bastard of a game, and it can easily see you crushed. It's a real economic war.

Re: How to improve?

I think we are currently seeing a backlash to gaming journalism, because it is at heart still an enthusiast press industry, and expecting impartiality is naive. Although it inched along toward cleaning up its act, there was no impetus except from 'fanatics' (anyone read RAM Raider back in the day? h...

Re: PBEM / VASSAL

In finest PT fashion I have challenged Alex Connolly to fight me. In the politest way possible. Over VASSAL. So this is timely. He's only just starting out on his cardboard quest too. I'm currently playing Paths of Glory over VASSAL; it's a card-driven design like TS, but it's a full-on wargame with...

Re: To "improve" or not to improve....

Rather brave question, Kelsey. Before I answer it in a way that is specific to you and PT, I have to point out a common problem that a lot of us have with technology and the interwebs today: the people running things keep "improving" their products. This is a problem because many of the "improvemen...

Re: How to improve?

Any thoughts about a method for displaying consecutive photos of a board game state which communicates how the game has changed from photo to photo? Perhaps a very simple overlay or some kind of region-colouring system highlighting control/forces? I was idly flipping through my terrible LoD pictures...
